The rate

Count for a trip in Ouigo: 10 euros per dog within a limit of 1 dog per passenger. In 2022, SNCF proposed a single and fixed rate of 7 euros per dog, regardless of its size, with no animal limit per user (even if you can't imagine taking the train alone with 7 dogs and 2 cats, it's always good to know).

The conditions

Whatever the company:

  • animals under 7 kilos must be in a transport bag,

  • above this weight, they must be muzzled and kept on a leash.

Always check the terms and conditions of the airline.

How do you give your dog a good trip?

The world, the unusual noises, the lack of space... These are all stressful factors for your dog that you will need to understand before leaving.

    • Plan a long walk before departure so that your companion can work out and do all his needs. Also remember to take a walk upon arrival to relieve stress and stretch your legs.

    • Bring a few treats with you: it can be useful to divert his attention when a cat in a transport cage passes by his truffle, or when your neighbor is enjoying his ham and butter. Or simply to reward him when he is calm.

    • Remember to give him some water, especially if it is hot.

    • Put on a harness in addition to the collar to make it safe to move.

    • Take him out for some fresh air if some station stops allow it.

    • Avoid letting all passengers pet him when passing in front of your seat: being in an enclosed space with no way to move, your dog can quickly feel oppressed.

If your dog is prone to stress or anxiety, talk to your veterinarian for advice on how to make the trip more comfortable for your pet.
Get your dog used to the equipment

Your good old Labrador has never worn a muzzle but he will have to. In order not to traumatize him - or just because you can't put on him - spread the end with pâté, fresh cheese or other food that he loves.

If the carrying bag is a discovery, leave it accessible at home several days before and do not hesitate to hide treats regularly. Your dog will associate this bag with something pleasant and not a constraint.

    Respect hygiene rules

Make sure your dog is clean and well-groomed before boarding the train, in order to respect SNCF hygiene rules and not to inconvenience other passengers.

Travelling by train with your dog can be a pleasant experience if you are well prepared. By following these practical tips, you can ensure the safety and comfort of your pet while respecting the rules of the company and other passengers.
